Game description: The Last Z-8 is a mash of mini games tied together with a Ghostbusters theme presentation. The game starts things off with the city map where you simply need to drive your car over to one of the ghosts on screen. This triggers a basic moon patrol style of game, your aim here is to survive the level all while shooting floating enemies on screen in order to increase the Zonk Energy meter. The next level sees you shooting traps at ghosts to once again increase your Zonk Energy meter. Your overall objective is to get your meter to 9999. There is also an overhead driving level where you simply need to avoid the obstacles floating around. The game generally repeats itself over and over but does break things up halfway through as you climb up an apartment building while avoiding obstacles.

Summary
Thankfully, the game title is quite misleading and has nothing in common at all with the Last-V8. Instead, what we get is a small collection of mini-games presented within a Ghostbusters theme.
There are generally 4 repeating game screens. The city map view is simply a means to trigger the proper mini games – one of which is a basic moon patrol style of game, while the second is a more basic arcade style reinterpretation of the Ghostbuster ghost trap level and the third is a simple overhead dodge the obstacles game. Game play wise everything is basic and simple and these levels just repeat themselves until you lose all your lives or max out your energy meter.
The PETSCII backgrounds are very well drawn and you appreciate the overall variety of colour throughout the game and there is some effort to break up the repetitive game play by intersecting a section where you climb up levels of an apartment building by timing your movement past obstacles.
I appreciate the thought behind the game concept and design. It certainly has the potential to be much more with a greater variety of mini-games but, in its current state, The Last Z-8 is something that you will set down with for an hour, moderately enjoy and forget about it.
