Retro Games Limited has announced via TheC64 Facebook page that TheC64 will start to be dispatched on Monday 9th December 2019 to original backers.
Those that backed the project back in 2016 via Indiegogo or pre-ordered through TheC64 web site will finally receive their long awaited units within the next week or so, albeit in a different format and functionality than was originally proposed.
Unfortunately, some who have recently place pre-orders, have noticed their expected release dates pushed out a little with some reporting revised dates of 23rd December and 30th December.
Retro Games Limited also took the opportunity to reveal a couple of more new features, including:
Audio Scale – This adjusts the pitch of the generated audio to be as close as possible to the original level when a program runs at a different refresh rate than expected (e.g. a program running on a PAL C64 at 60Hz or a program running on an NTSC C64 at 50Hz); and
Full Height – This squeezes the entire computer’s video output, including top and bottom borders, into the 720p image output from THEC64, by sacrificing the usual accurate rendered image. This is particularly useful for C64 or VIC 20 programs that place anything into the top *and* bottom border areas of the display.
RGN is an original backer for the project, and I will have a review of THEC64 soon after it arrives and we’ve had a couple of days to play with it…stay tuned
